{"id":49489,"date":"2021-04-07T13:35:31","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T05:35:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.runnerstribe.com\/?p=49489"},"modified":"2024-09-18T08:34:51","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T00:34:51","slug":"pillaga-ultra-mother-nature-to-host-a-new-series-of-trail-runs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runnerstribe.com\/latest-news\/pillaga-ultra-mother-nature-to-host-a-new-series-of-trail-runs\/","title":{"rendered":"PILLAGA ULTRA: MOTHER NATURE TO HOST A NEW SERIES OF TRAIL RUNS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Every runner loves a new race especially when it&#8217;s a challenge that helps you get fitter, run with and against others, whilst also protecting wild places.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pilligaultra.raisely.com\/\">The Pilliga Ultra series<\/a>, created by the team who conceived the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.runnerstribe.com\/latest-news\/takayna-tarkine-ultra-run-to-save-wild-places\/\">takayna Trail event<\/a> (an event that has raised well over $600k to protect the majestic Tarkine rainforest) have just launched a 5km, 20km and 50km race to protect the beautiful Pilliga Forest in New South Wales from coal seam gas mining.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tarkine.com\/collections\/auto-pilot\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66734 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/runnerstribe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Autopilot-landscape.jpg\" alt=\"Advertisement image for tarkine.com\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Half a million hectares of this rare intact temperate eucalypt woodland are under threat from mining company Santos\u2019 plans to drill up to 850 coal seam gas wells in this ancient landscape.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p3WzjPGg5w8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At 95,000 hectares, the Narrabri Gas Project is the largest, by land area, ever proposed in NSW. It would be 38 times the size of Sydney, and would set a precedent that risks fast-tracking the destruction of our precious forests and wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>All for the sake of a fossil fuel resource that threatens the future of our planet.<\/p>\n<p>Fredrik Henttonen, Race Director said \u2019Trail runners are natural allies of the environment.
